These are some of the more colorful / major festivals and parades in the San Francisco Bay Area. These are not the only ones in the area, but they are the free ones I regularly attend. Vietnamese Spring Festival 2013 Parade Unknown Saturday http://www.hoitetfairgrounds.org/ |
Solano Stroll Start early in the morning with not much people then right after the small parade it got crowded. Like most street fairs. The surrounding neighborhood is much better than the major cities. Obon Was only there for a very brief time. Will make an effort to go there longer next year. Pride Projected attendance of ~1 million people! Guess the news from New York helped to promote the event a lot. Plus it's also great weather to be outside and people watch. Great location at 8th and Market... Get there early next year for best spot. Carnaval Must attend event, lots of skin with beautiful costumes. Another awesome weather event. Unfortunately, due to repair work on BART and their un-updated train schedule and misleading signs on the boards it took longer to get to the event than hoped. There were only a couple of politicians in the event this year, good thing I guess. My location was again at the main stage on Mission between 16th and 24th. Pagan Festival The street parade appears to be longer this year. It was both windy and chilly. I was only there for a few hours this year due to the cold wind. Will make an attempt to arrive earlier next year to see the beginning part. Cherry Blossom Festival Seem smaller than usual, but it is not cancel like some other events due to budget problems. Like previous years the weather turns out nice for the event. It is always interesting to see the beauty contestants on the floats. If going always try to go to the festival too. Vietnamese Spring Festival After days of rain, it turns sunny for this event. Not very crowded. Dress warmly in layers is always good advise. Event started with some long speeches. Thirty minutes too long for my taste. Sad thing was they were not even on a stage so we can not see the speaker. Guess it was more for television. Comcast Holiday They say it was one of the bigger Comcast holiday parades. Like previous years it was cloudy and cold, so always dress in layers. The event lasted 2 hours with very little break between floats. Started at 2 pm, as posted. Was nice except for the huge dude that decided to stand instead of sitting when it started. I guess Canon and Sigma lenses do not go together too well, was getting a lot of errors. Very disappointing. Still manage to get some decent photos. Italian Heritage Where were all the expensive cars?! Missed the nice vehicles from previous years. But it was still a nice event. Doubling with fleet week and clear weather made it a nice weekend. Bring a hat if you don't plan on finding shades. Bark in the Park Hairy sheep instead of woolly sheep... No more silly double line for ticket then food. Nice place to bring a well behaved dog. The obstacle course should probably be skipped by some owners because most dogs had no idea what the owner want them to do. Funny and sad to see a kid drag a dog by its neck when the dog flat out do not want to go through the course. | |
